The Dales Haven is situated in Leyburn in the Yorkshire Dales where James Herriot regularly visited during his famous career as a vet. It is en route between the market town of Thirsk, North Yorkshire, where James Herriot lived and practised, and the village of Askrigg, where the television series All Creatures Great and Small was filmed.
Alf Wight was the vet and author who created the character of James Herriot in the autobiographical tales of life in the Yorkshire Dales. The James Herriot books are loved and enjoyed by readers all over the world.
The original Skeldale House in the fictional town of Darrowby where James Herriot first lived and also worked alongside Siegfried and Tristan, is now a museum. Step back in time into the world of Mrs Pumphrey and Tricki-Woo. An absolute joy to visit.
